Volunteer Job Descriptions
Academic Tutor For GED & High School Classes:
On occasion, we have interns who are enrolled in high school and/or a GED program. If you have a heart for teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and guiding, then this volunteer opportunity may be perfect for you. Help these young men achieve and earn their high school education.
Administrative/Office Help:
If you are a detail-oriented person who likes to help behind the scenes, then this is the perfect opportunity for you. We need help in the areas of filing, organizing documents, making labels, data entry, paper shredding, copying, and so much more in our administrative office.
Barber:
If you have a passion for giving back and possess barbering skills ranging from buzz cuts to fades, crew cuts, and more, our guys are constantly seeking quality haircuts. If you have your own barber kit and the expertise to style hair, this volunteer opportunity is ideal for you.
Bible Study/Devotion Leader:
You don't need to have all the answers about the Bible to lead a great Bible Study. A great Bible Study Leader is someone that loves the Lord and can ask interesting questions about a short passage of Scripture. A Bible Study leader's job is not to be a teacher, but a facilitator of conversation.
Building Maintenance And Upkeep:
Hope’s Path is a 10,000sf home with ten bedrooms, six bathrooms, an eight-machine laundry room, and two kitchens. This is a lot of square footage to keep up with. If you are skilled in changing out light bulbs, troubleshooting appliances, swapping out AC filters, minor electrical/plumbing fixes, replacing doors, installing hardware, etc.…then this volunteer opportunity could be just right for you!
Certified Public Accountant (CPA):
As a 501c3 nonprofit with an established budget, we are in need of regular services from a CPA. This need includes budget oversight and recommendations, tax preparation, audits, end-of-year filing with the IRS, and the many other services that a CPA provides to organizations.
Drivers Ed Training (Unofficial):
One of the important documents we help our interns get is a driver’s license (if they don’t already have one). Some of these young men have never even driven before. If this is the case, then we take it upon ourselves to get them the practice they need to learn how to drive and pass the test. If you would like to volunteer in this area, you are more than welcome to use one of our vehicles or use your own. This is an excellent opportunity to spend quality one-on-one time with an intern and invest in their future by helping them become a licensed driver.
Event/Fundraising Coordinator:
Throughout the year, there are many activities that Hope’s Path is involved in. From intern birthday and holiday parties to fundraisers like the golf tournament, cornhole tournament, gala, and several others, we need volunteers that are gifted at coordinating events including event setup, execution, and then tear town. This volunteer opportunity is great for engaging with our interns as well as local community members and partner organizations.
Exercise Instructor:
With an on-site fitness center, a large grass lawn area, and a calming outdoor environment, Hope’s Path is the ideal location to lead fitness activities for our interns. Whether you want to lead a circuit workout in the fitness center, teach yoga on the lawn, or facilitate a nice run on the shaded roads near the home, if instructing physical fitness is your gift and passion, then this is the ideal volunteer opportunity for you.
Finances & Budgeting Specialist:
One of the foundational pillars of our program is financial development. We teach basic financial skills such as weekly and monthly budgeting, how to save, how to buy a car, and how to set financial goals for planning the future. We also teach our interns how to correctly use a bank and establish a checking and savings account. If you are good with a budget and enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with others, then this is a great volunteer position at Hope’s Path.
General Contractor Help:
We have several dreams of improvements that we would like done to the home, however, we need the skills of a general contractor. Projects include painting, installing doors, cabinet and carpentry work, patching/pouring concrete, building storage units, brick and mason work and so much more. If you are skilled with your hands and would like to give your time and talent to help us improve and update this organization, then please let us know your skillset!
Grant Writer:
Seeking and applying for grants is one aspect of funding that we are not too experienced in. We are seeking volunteers to help with grant writing as part of the development department to raise money for the organization’s mission. You would help search for available grants and research their requirements to find opportunities that align with our mission and values. After the research phase, grant writers prepare several drafts using persuasive language and facts about our organization to explain why we should receive funding and how we would use the money.
Housekeeping Services:
If you have a knack for cleaning and keeping things tidy, then volunteering in this area would fit you well. This volunteer position helps with vacuuming/mopping the main front office area, pantry, classroom, and staff/visitor bathroom. Taking out trash from the offices, dusting office furniture, cleaning mirrors, and disinfecting counters and other surfaces.
IT and Computer Networking:
We have a small network of computers, printers, and office phones at Hope’s Path. We use Windows as an operating system and a combination of wired and wireless devices on the network. We also have a classroom with four computers and a printer. Although our use of technology is not complex, we do have a need for regular maintenance, virus software updates, and other networking issues that arise from time to time. If you are a tech-savvy individual, then volunteering to help us in this capacity would be a good fit.
Landscaping & Area Beautification:
Our property is situated on two beautiful acres of lush green grass, tall trees, and a few low-maintenance landscaped areas. Keeping our property looking presentable and properly maintained takes minimal time and commitment. We need willing people who can mow the lawns (we have a riding lawnmower), trim tree branches, blow leaves off the driveway, and spray weeds. If you enjoy light yard work, then this volunteer opportunity would be perfect for you.
Legal Counsel:
From time to time, there is a legal need that one of our interns is required to deal with. This could range from an issue from a prior criminal conviction to a civil matter. We are seeking volunteers who work in the legal field (a lawyer or paralegal) that can be available (as needed) to help guide an intern that is navigating the judicial system.
Life-skills Teacher:
One of the highlights each week at Hope’s Path is the Thursday night Life Skills classes. Whether the interns are studying a book together, learning leadership, working on their character development, or listening to a guest speaker, these classes never disappoint! If you enjoy teaching in a classroom setting and engaging in meaningful and thoughtful conversation, then consider volunteering on Thursday evenings to lead one of these classes. This is an excellent way to mentor and get to know our interns.
Make-A-Meal:
Everyone loves food, especially our interns! Ecclesiastes 3:13 says “And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God” (NLT). One way to impress the interns is by volunteering to cook a meal with them as part of our “Make-A-Meal Program”. Have a favorite dish or recipe? Come in and teach our guys how to make it from beginning to end. Then sit with our guys in the large dining room and enjoy the meal together while engaging in conversation and building relationships.

Mental Health Counseling Services:
We are always in need of mental health professionals to provide services to our interns on an as-needed (or sometimes) ongoing basis. We have limited resources when it comes to serving our interns in this capacity, however, if you are educated and qualified to work in this field and can help alleviate some of our needs by volunteering your time and expertise in mental health, then we would gratefully use whatever services you could provide.
Mentoring:
Do you have an interest in mentoring? Each intern is matched with a lead mentor. Over time, additional individuals will join the mentor team to complete their intern’s public relations team in the areas needed (i.e., finance/budget, healthcare, transportation, housing, spiritual development, etc.). Being a mentor takes time and commitment and is not always easy, but the reward is life-changing! This is the best way to form a lifelong relationship with a young man at Hope’s Path.
Pantry Organization:
We have a large pantry with non-perishable food, cleaning products, paper products, first aid supplies and so much more. Due to the inflow and outflow of food and products, keeping the pantry clean, organized, and properly labeled can become problematic. We are seeking volunteers with excellent organizational skills to keep the pantry in order.
Photographer:
We love to tell stories and share experiences as Hope’s Path. One of the ways we do this is through pictures and video. If you love taking pictures and/or videos and capturing moments, then we would love to get you connected as a volunteer photographer. We need help capturing our fundraisers, parties, events, volunteer engagements, group dinners, intern accomplishments, and so much more. We love to share these pictures on our website, social media, newsletter, and in prints displayed around the home.
Social Media Coordinator:
If social media is your favorite pastime and you are familiar with several platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, then we could use your help. Currently, we primarily use Facebook and Instagram as our main social media networks; but want to substantially grow our followers and engagement levels. If you are gifted at creating posts, making stories, boosting content, and capable of enhancing our social media outreach, then please consider volunteering with Hope’s Path as a social media coordinator!
Transportation Assistant:
We have many transportation needs at Hope’s Path. These needs might include taking/picking up an intern from work, taking an intern to a job interview, doctors’ appointments, food and medication pick-ups, and other driving needs that pop up. If you enjoy driving and running errands, then this would be an excellent volunteer position for you.
Vehicle Maintenance & Mechanic:
Between the vehicles that Hope’s Path owns and the ones the interns own, there seems to always be a mechanical issue that needs to be fixed. From regular oil changes to replacing brakes, tire rotations, and other engine work, the need for regular car maintenance remains. We are seeking volunteers who know their way around a vehicle and would like to help with vehicle matters as needed.
Worship Night Leader:
On the last Wednesday evening of each month, Hope’s Path hosts local worship leaders for a time of song and praise for our interns. This is a time for our interns to be led in worship and help them grow in their faith. If you are musically gifted (vocals and/or keys/guitar) then this would be an ideal volunteer opportunity. This time of worship takes place in our living room and is a “come as you are” atmosphere!
